How Much Does It Cost to Paint a House in Pretoria?

It is the first question most people ask: how much will it cost to paint my house? The honest answer is that it depends. Two houses of the same size can be priced very differently. Here is what decides the cost, so you know what to expect and what to ask for.

What affects the price

Size of the job. The total area to be painted, including walls, ceilings, fascias, trims and outbuildings.

Condition of the surfaces. Peeling paint, cracks, damp and damaged plaster must be repaired before painting. The more preparation needed, the more labour the job takes.

Interior or exterior. Exterior work involves weather exposure, access equipment and tougher paint systems.

Height and access. Double-storey homes and high walls may need scaffolding or special access.

Type and quality of paint. Better paint systems cost more upfront but last longer and protect better.

Number of coats and colour changes. Moving from a dark colour to a light one usually needs extra coats.

Extra work. Roof painting, waterproofing, damp treatment, floors and other add-ons change the scope.

Why a price over the phone can mislead you

A quote based on square metres alone ignores the condition of your walls. A proper quote comes after someone has looked at the property, or reviewed photos of it, and understood the preparation involved.

How to get an accurate quote

  1. Say whether the work is interior, exterior or both.
  2. Share the approximate size and number of storeys.
  3. Send photos of any problem areas such as damp, cracks or peeling paint.
  4. Tell us about any extras, such as the roof, floors or waterproofing.

What to ask any painter

Ask what preparation is included, which paint products will be used, how many coats you are getting, and how the surroundings will be protected. A clear, itemised quote makes it easy to compare offers fairly.

Send us your details through the quote form and we will work out a price for your property. Online quote requests are free. If you are happy with the estimate, we can arrange a site visit to confirm the quotation before work is scheduled.
